Build your ATS-optimized scrum master resume with the right Agile keywords
Keyword Strategy for Scrum Masters
Lead With Framework Expertise
Your summary should immediately establish which frameworks you work in. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe—be specific. "Agile practitioner" is too vague for ATS matching.
Strong opening: "Certified Scrum Master (CSM, PSM II) facilitating 3 cross-functional Scrum teams with combined velocity of 120 story points per sprint"
Quantify Facilitation Impact
Every ceremony keyword needs a result. "Facilitated sprint retrospectives" tells me nothing. "Facilitated retrospectives identifying 40+ process improvements, implementing 85% within the following sprint" shows impact.
Separate Coaching From Managing
Scrum master keywords are about facilitation and coaching, not management and control. If your resume uses "managed the team" or "assigned tasks," replace with "facilitated," "coached," or "empowered the team."
Match Certification Names Exactly
ATS systems match certification names literally. Write "Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)" not "Scrum Certified" or "CSM Certified." Include the issuing body: Scrum Alliance, Scrum.org, or Scaled Agile.
Tool Keywords Matter
Jira appears in 90% of scrum master job descriptions. If you use it, list it explicitly. Same for Confluence, Miro, and Azure DevOps. Do not assume the ATS knows that "project management tools" means Jira.
Include Metrics in Context
Every scrum master keyword gains power when paired with a number. "Velocity" alone is a skill. "Improved team velocity from 45 to 72 story points over 4 sprints" is proof. When listing keywords in your skills section, ensure each critical term appears at least once in your experience section backed by a measurable outcome.
Distinguish Scrum Master From Agile Coach
If you are targeting Agile Coach roles, shift emphasis from ceremony facilitation keywords toward organizational transformation, leadership coaching, and enterprise agility. Scrum master keywords focus on team-level facilitation. Agile coach keywords emphasize organizational change and multi-team impact. Know which level you are targeting and adjust your keyword balance accordingly.
